나른한 오후다 후덕지근함은 더말할 나위 없고...   허리가 아파서 한의원에 들렸는데 1시간가량을 대기해야만 했다.   짜증나고 이런저런 생각에 빠져 있는데 익숙한 노래가 귓가에 맴돌았다.     티비에서 흘러나오는 노래 Simon & Garfunkel 이 부르는 The Sound of Silence였다.   역시 Simon & Garfunkel 였다                                           오늘 따라 너무 의미심장 하게 들려왔다. 사무실들어와 검색을 하다보니 Emiliana Torrini의 목소리로 들어보는 노래도 색다르게 다가온다. 어느 누가 부르냐에 따라 이리도 달라질수 있단 말인가?         이태리와 아이슬랜드 혼혈 가수인 1978년생 에밀리아나 토리니( Emiliana Torrini ). 마치 어린 아이의 목소리 같이 연약하고 어딘지 모르게 불안정한 느낌과 연약함 속에 풍부한 감수성을 가진 묘한 매력을 느끼게 하는 가수다   뛰어난 가창력과 기교가 없이도 듣는 이의 감성을 흔들 수 있는 매력을 줄 수 있구나 하고 생각하게 만드는 에밀리아나 토리니 (Emiliana Torrini )     The Sound of Silence                - Emiliana Torrini  Hello, darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision, that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence   내 오랜 친구 어둠이여. 너와 얘기하기 위하여 다시 돌아왔네. 내가 잠들어 있는 동안 누군가가 내게 들어와 내 머리 속에 이런 씨앗을 심어놓았네. 지금도 침묵의 소리 가운데   In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone Beneath the halo of a street lamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed By the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence   불안한 꿈속에서 나는 혼자 걸었지. 차갑고 습한 날씨 때문에 깃을 세우고 밤을 산산히 깨어버리는 네온 빛은 내 눈을 찌르듯 아프게 했지. 침묵의 소리는 깨어졌고 그 환한 빛속에서 나는 수많은 사람을 보았지.   And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking, People hearing without listening, People writing songs that voices never share And no on-e dare Disturb the sound of silence.   무언의 대화를 나누고 건성으로 귀를 기울이며 그리고 부를 수 없는 노래를 작곡하는 사람들. 아무도 침묵의 소리를 방해하지 않네.   'Fools,' said I, 'you do not know Silence like a cancer grows.'
